Here is our very own dancameron16 interviewing Aircraftkiller.
dancameron16: I’ve recently heard a lot about the RA1 mod for CnC Renegade,
Can you please explain what it is, and what your role is in the team?
Aircraftkiller: Well, the Red Alert 1 mod is actually the definitive mod
for Renegade. It's a total conversion of Renegade's Tiberian Dawn world
to its predecessor, Red Alert. We're attempting to be as faithful as possible
to the original game while creating the units and structures. My job is
the mod coder, map designer, and the object and building modeler - So
far, I've made two maps, a good number of objects and about three structures.
dancameron16: What is the scheduled release date for the moment?
Aircraftkiller: We're looking at winter of 2002.
dancameron16: How many new units, etc are you looking at including
in this mod, and more importantly, will there be naval?
Aircraftkiller: I don't know the exact amount of units, however I do know
we're almost done with the vehicles and infantry units. We also may incorporate
a Cruiser or a Destroyer that sits on the shore and is able to be entered
with a Submarine for the Soviets.
dancameron16: Do you have any inside information regarding any future
Renegade support from WW?
Aircraftkiller: I do not have permission to say.
dancameron16: Why’s that?
Aircraftkiller: I don't break promises
dancameron16: Ok, I won’t push you any further then. We are hearing
more and more about the future release Generals, but what is your opinion
on the older CnC games, which was your favourite and why?
Aircraftkiller: Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert were my favourite games -
I'd stay up late just playing the skirmish on RA, especially by editing
INI files to make it harder to play against.
dancameron16: You have been fairly quiet on the RA2 scene for quite
some time now, have you any plans to go back to it?
Aircraftkiller: No, I'm done with RA2\YR. I have no more plans to continue
creating maps for said game.
dancameron16: Why is that? Because the game is outdated?
Aircraftkiller: Because it's not enjoyable to work with anymore. Renegade
has much more in the way of flexibility.
dancameron16: Would you care to Elaborate?
Aircraftkiller: In RA2\YR, eventually your maps are going to look exactly
like someone else's because you have no real flexability in how the terrain
is designed - eventually you cannot make anything original anymore because
of the lack of things to actually incorporate into the maps.
dancameron16: With the imminent release of more Generals information
(or so I’m told) what is your opinion on how the game is shaping up, and
what are your hopes for the game?
Aircraftkiller: I'm not really paying any more attention to Generals.
When Renegade becomes uninteresting to me, I'll start working with Generals
- I may just work on both at the same time, but that's an unlikely prospect.
